AFAR: 3 Reasons I Like Miami Airport

28 Dec

Welcome to Miami. Buenvienedo a Miami. My line up at Customs.

Miami Airport is NOT my favourite airport. The lines in customs; going through customs AND security a second time if you’re on a layover; the claustophobia; closed ATMs;  the fact that it’s absolutely MASSIVE; the worry that you’ll miss your flight because of said massiveness and on and on. So when I couldn’t leave the airport and had a five hour stopover, I had to make the most of it.

Here goes:

1. Chili’s. Airports are full of non-descript crap-ass restaurants. So when I saw something familiar, I was happy. I had only known Chili’s from those Baby Back  Ribs commercials. (See Below.) But now with not too many options in sight, I was able to have the experience.  I was quite impressed with the bacon and chicken quesadillas. Win!

2. The people watching. Customs is a nightmare. So what to do when you have about 40 minutes in line? Start taking photos.  Oh, and the opportunities are endless. Kids in matching outfits. Scratch that. COUPLES in matching outfits. With matching Louis Vuitton luggage. There are all kinds here.

This kid's brother had on the exact same outfit but I can't find the picture. 😦

3. The duty free shopping. I especially liked the Shoppes at Ocean Drive in Terminal D (gate 17). They have everything: sunglasses, cute beach shoes, magazines and more. Basically, it was everything I needed before I took off on my trip.  But I was able to spend an hour in there and buy minimal. Now I know for next time.

I thought I could come up with five reasons but I can’t. So enlighten me.

What are your favourite things about Miami Airport?

Is Miami an extreme airport? I don’t know. It’s just so…massive. Not fun when you have to find an ATM. I learned my lesson to change my money at home before going away.
